Grazing Fields Farm Wedding | Ashley & Mike Red Barn wedding

Ashley and Mike’s dream of a barn wedding on the Cape came true on September 8, 2018, at Grazing Fields Farm.  This was such a beautiful day from start to finish. Every detail was so special and meaningful. Ashley wore her Mother’s wedding dress and veil, which she had specially altered by Vintage & Vogue.   She also wore her Grandmothers necklace,  and Mike’s grandmothers bracelet from Thailand. She was simply stunning!

They were married in front of the the rustic red barn, with a huge American flag they found at an antique store on the Cape.  The celebration was held under the tent with country music and old rock & everyone danced the night away. Guests were treated to an authentic  BBQ by GottaQBBQ . The details were just amazing! There were touches of red, white, and blue, homemade dessert table with a special wedding cake featuring the groom’s grandparents wedding topper. There was a custom made bar on whiskey barrels with cold kegs of beer & lots of wine!  Pretty assorted crystal wine glasses & custom country flower boxes with lace placemats on the farm tables.  It was a rustic & romantic wedding dream!!!

Congratulations Ashley & Mike! I can’t wait to see you guys (3) again in the future!!! xoxoxo

  • Where & How did you meet?

” It was nothing less than a fairy tale, and one that I have enjoyed sharing over and over again. We met at the hospital where I was a cardiac nurse and he was a security guard. Our original “meeting” was months prior to the first words we spoke. Mike had just started his security guard position and was directed to respond to the third floor. Being a new employee he got lost and stepped off the elevator on the second floor. He walked just far enough onto the unit for me to see him. He stopped there, right in front of my, looked down with what had to be the cutest smirk I had ever seen, and turned away. I chased that look everywhere for months looking for this mysterious man in the maroon shirt.

Fast forward three months and I was a tired, overworked nurse chatting away with my patient about how I will never marry. One woman in particular called me out on my pathetic loveless rants. She told me that I would “meet him one day, and everything I’m saying now will fall away”. She said that love happens with the “snap of a finger” and it “takes you forever”. I laughed and asked her how she met the love of her life. Her immediate reaction was “bowling”. Her face lit up as she dug into her wallet for his funeral card. We spent the rest of the shift laughing and sharing memories of love, both past, present, and future.

It was that next morning that I was stationed to room 285 for a particularly troubling patient. I walked down the hall to introduce myself to the patient and there he was, all dressed up as the cutest security guard I have ever seen. Out of all things I said that day, the one thing I wanted to say was “where have you been!”

He eventually asked to bring me a coffee, after all that is the quickest way to a nurses heart. But his first date idea? Bowling.

I knew from day one I would marry him, and as much as he denied it for a while he did too. “

  • What inspired you to have a Cape Cod wedding?
” Cape Cod and its beautiful beaches were where I grew up. I spent the first 26 years of my life with sand in my hair and salty skin. Cape Cod has always been more than home to me. It has been a place of comfort and love, a place where the air heals every imaginable ailment. I brought Mike down to Cape Cod on our first day. To First Encounter beach in Eastham, Ma. He fell in love just as much as I had throughout all those years. Our first kiss was on that beach! I could not imagine getting married anywhere else, after all, that is where it all began! “
  • Why did you choose & what was your favorite thing about your reception Venue?
” I chose Grazing Fields Farms for my wedding venue as it had some of the most beautiful scenery out there. It truly has grazing, luscious fields with stallions studded throughout. It was like something out of a movie. Anyone that knows me can tell you that I love vintage and old Americana treasures. The silo on this farm is absolutely stunning and was a huge reason for us choosing it! We knew how beautiful the backdrop would be. We also loved the owners! They really seemed to understand our vision for the backwoods, hometown BBQ! “
  • What are some of your favorite memories of your wedding day?
” There are way too many to ever list! Seeing mikes face when I walked down the isle. He promised for months he would not cry on his wedding day. He was crying the moment he saw me! Our grand entrance to AC DC Thunderstruck is one of my favorite memories of the day as well as mike using my leg as a guitar…totally unscripted! Seeing all my family together, happy, and healthy was the best feeling ever. “
  •  What were some special touches / details for your wedding day? Please include your vendors for all of these details.
” Wearing my mother’s dress was a huge highlight of the day as well. It was stunning and it meant so much to me to be able to wear it on my special day. Vintage and Vogue of Orleans, MA was a miracle worker! She entirely transformed my mothers dress and changed out the bottom. She is an absolute genius with needle and thread! I have known the owner, Maureen, since I was a teenager and I would go into her shop and tell her that she one day would make my wedding gown for me! It was so nice for that dream to come true!
The dessert table from Stracco’s Subs and Bakery of Plymouth, MA! Mike is an Italian boy who befriended the owners of this establishment after eating subs there three times per week. I fell in love with their lobster tails at first bite. They affectionately called us Mr. and Mrs. Lobster tail by the end of our meetings! The cake topper was Mike’s grandmothers and had been passed down to Mike’s aunt as well. It was such an honor to have this beautiful piece of love on our cake.
The bouquets were made by my maid of honors mother, Jeanne Brown, who apparently just discovered her hidden talent of being an AMAZING florist. Flowers ordered and purchased from Trader Joe’s! They were so helpful and deserve all the thanks in the world for ordering the most beautiful flowers!
Lastly, my grandmothers necklace which was a gift to her mother. It has been worn by all brides in the family, including my mother herself! It was an aquamarine, so it was both borrowed and blue! “
  •  What were your wedding colors for bridesmaids dresses and flowers. Any special wedding party gifts / favors?
” Wedding colors for bridesmaid dresses: slate blue and ivory. Flowers were just antique pinks, ivory’s, spray roses, and hints of purple/blue to tie into the dress color. “
